A Busy Start

A couple of weeks spent in Islington and I am already feeling the chills. I was so occupied by the lectures, assignments and tests that I could barely feel the time pass by. But, yes! It’s getting more and more interesting. Let’s talk about the modules that I am currently engrossed in: Study Skills in Computing, Problem Solving in IT, Introduction to programming and Logic respectively.
The first module gives knowledge on the employment and communication skills which are expected in every profession. I have been learning how to present ourselves and communicate with fellow members or strangers. Furthermore, it also provides us expertise to writing reports, personal statement in ways they are meant to be written.
The second module helps develop sound ability to analyze a problem from different perspectives and adopt the most suitable way to solve them. I faced numerous complications and hope they all add to my know-how. I will also learn variety of database software and will be able to handle and manipulate data at the end of the module.
The third module is core subject as I plan to be a programmer. I am currently learning the basics of the Java-programming. Moreover, projects and reports are assigned to us in regular basis to hone our programming as well as documenting skills. This module will introduce programming logic and build a firm foundation for our computing endeavors.
The fourth module is designed to offer the basic mathematical understanding and also apply them to a variety of practical problems to aid students think logically, systematically and creatively. The topics of discussion include Logical gates, circuit diagrams, etc. which are vital for understanding the way a computer system operates.
The modules seemed very dull at times but after couple of weeks of understanding everything has started to make sense and I can say that they will prove their worth in the long run.

Arduous Intentions

Learning computing is really hard if you do not have necessary skills. I was lucky that I had computer education as a compulsory subject in my early school days. That developed good command on the basics of computer system. Our syllabus consisted of Qbasic programming and Microsoft package which built base for my future in IT. I was very keen to view source codes of programs and websites to understand the flow and integration of various parts of the program. I had a few months gap after my school which I spent going to web design course. I also got ideas on designing and learned basic of C-programming there. Studying science and mathematics in my plus 2 was a plus point as it helped me develop strategies to solve a problem in multiple ways.
Goals help you channel your energy into action (Brown, n.d.).” Now that I have fixed my goal I will constantly work hard to achieve it. After the completion of the course I expect to have sound knowledge of java programming. I will read many books to expand my horizon. Giving presentations and speeches would help develop my confidence. Personal development classes will develop professional attitudes in me. I will learn to construct plans to solve problems. Employability skill is also inevitable, so I would also practice communicating and dealing with people to horn it. I also expect to learn industry related skills and skills that are relevant to my intended career. I believe in learning through doing so I will try to implement the learned skills in my daily life. Indulging myself in a number of projects and reports throughout the session will make me more aware about the present scientific endeavors. At the end of the degree, I expect myself to be fully prepared to face every challenge the world puts forward.

Jumping into the Blogoverse

Well, life is full of surprises. It was a moment of joy to be selected for the nationwide quiz cum reality show Quiz Mania 2012, representing my college GEMS. To my sheer delight I snatched the 1st runner up trophy along with the scholarship in Islington College to continue my career pursuit. Introducing myself, I am Srawan Kumar Shrestha. It was my life changing experience that gave me opportunity to be a part of an institution with such an international recognition. So, I'd like to thank Islington family for the same.
Talking about the things I indulge myself in my spare times; it’s usually guitar and books. I love singing (though not so well). Besides I also play computer games in my leisure.

As I've mentioned, it was pure luck that drove me to this college which was my fate, I suppose. Computers have always been the subject of amazement to me. Isn't it amazing how an inanimate thing as a computer can save lives! After all the experiences I had in my recent years what I can conclude is that my fate has conspired to direct me to this track which must be the reason why despite all the deviations I came across, I finally joined this course: computing. I loved math from my early school days. I spent my late schools programming simple programs and games using Qbasic while my friends were busy playing CS and chatting on Fb. It was civil engineering which grabbed my attention lately, but I discovered that I was just drifting with the trend and it's not exactly what I wanted. What I realize now is all the things I wanted to do were just illusions which had to fade and it did, for good. I'm sure I'm not going to regret my decision. I've taken my first step to success and still there are miles to go before I sleep.

Here I am, studying Bachelors Degree in Computing in Islington College, Nepal. This is my first launch to the Blogoverse...and wait.. still a lot to come :)
